**WWPD PRESS RELEASE: Public Service Announcement/Fire in the Charter Club Development 10/16/2019. Issued by Lt. Lee

PRESS INFORMATION

INCIDENT:  2019-27114 Fire

DATE & TIME OCCURRED:  10/16/2019 at 1255 Hours

LOCATION OCCURRED:  Residence in the Charter Club Development

OFFICER:  Traffic Sgt. F. Bal #467

OTHERS INVOLVED:
  1.  West Windsor Division of Fire & Emergency Services
  2.  West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company #1 (WWVFC-Station #43)
  3.  Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company #1 (PJVFC-Station #44)

DETAILS:  On this date at 1255 Hours, Patrol & Traffic Units were detailed with WW Division of Fire & Emergency Services, and Stations #43/44 to a residence in the Charter Club on a report of a car fire inside of the attached garage.  Traffic Sgt. Bal was the first Unit on scene and met with the resident who informed Sgt. Bal that he had been working on his car (welding) in the garage and it caught on fire.  Traffic Sgt. Bal observed a car on jack-stands and fire coming from under the vehicle.  Traffic Sgt. Bal retrieved his fire extinguisher and immediately extinguished the fire.  Shortly afterward, other First Responders arrived at the scene.
Since October is Fire Prevention Month, Traffic Sgt. Bal and our family of First Responders wanted to bring this incident to our community’s attention.  We are requesting that you do not attempt to weld the undercarriage of your vehicle while it’s inside the garage of a dwelling.  The resident immediately summoned help which is a great learning tool for this incident. By doing so, he prevented serious damage to the dwelling and more importantly, kept himself away from imminent danger.
