Burglary of a habitation arrest press release

BURGLARY ARREST PRESS RELEASE
On 10/3/2019 at 1:10 PM, a black male subject rang the front doorbell at a residence in the 1500 block of Shawnee Road in Red Oak while another white male subject initially stood outside the view of the doorbell camera. Shortly thereafter, these two subjects allegedly made forced entry into the residence through the back door. The two subjects allegedly took various jewelry valued at around $1500.00 and fled the scene through the front door at 1:16 PM. The second suspect was observed on the front doorbell video camera removing property from the residence as the two subjects fled the scene. The complainant contacted the Red Oak Police Department on 10/3/2019 at 9:43 PM when the complainant returned home and discovered the burglary. Red Oak Police Department personnel arrived on scene, processed the scene for evidence and forwarded the information to the Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation.

Detective Fitzgerald of the Red Oak Criminal Investigation Division was assigned the case and subsequently discovered that several pieces of the stolen jewelry had been pawned at a pawn shop in the City of Dallas. The complainant was able to identify the stolen jewelry and the stolen jewelry was subsequently returned to the complainant. Detective Fitzgerald was also able to identify the two suspects that pawned the jewelry as the two subjects that were on the complainants front doorbell video camera. Detective Fitzgerald subsequently obtained arrest warrants for both subjects for Burglary of a Habitation. On 10/15/2019 at around 9:30 AM, both subjects were arrested at a residence in the 2100 block of Candace Drive in Lancaster, Texas by Red Oak Police Department Criminal Investigation Division personnel for the offense of Burglary of a Habitation. Each subject was booked and secured into a cell without incident.

The top row of the attached still photos were retrieved from the front doorbell video camera during the burglary while the bottom row of photos are the booking photos of the defendants.

Suspect #1 was identified as Smith, Jason Ray W/M 24 YOA of DeSoto, Texas and was charged with his alleged involvement in the following offense:
A. Burglary of a Habitation
($50,000 Bond / Awaiting Transfer to ECSO)

Suspect #2 was identified as People, Courtney Douglas B/M 57 YOA of Lancaster, Texas and was charged with his alleged involvement in the following offense:
A. Burglary of a Habitation

Upon further investigation, it is believed that the same two subjects may be responsible for several other Burglary offenses that occurred in the City of Red Oak during the month of October that are still currently under investigation. If you have surveillance video of these subjects and/or a White 2000 Toyota Camry 4 door within your neighborhood or stopping at your residence, this information or evidence may assist in these other investigations.
