Advisory

Theft By Deception Incident & Information

We want to alert you to a trend of package thefts that are occurring and give you some tips about what to do if this happens to you.

The Morris Township Police Department investigated a Theft by Deception case this month where a resident received a package from FedEx which contained 3 iPad Pros. The resident was not expecting nor had they ordered anything. A few hours later a person arrived at the same resident’s door, showed a fraudulent ID, and said the package was delivered to the wrong address. We realize that this seems completely reasonable and when someone shows an ID that it makes it believable.

So here is what we are asking… if a package comes to your address and is not for you or someone in your home, please call (973) 539-0777 so an officer can respond. Never let anyone in your home you don’t know. If someone comes to your house stating a package was delivered to you by accident and it isn’t an immediate neighbor or someone you know, call us right away to respond. If anyone has experienced a similar incident like the one above and you live in Morris Township or if anyone has any information that might help our agency, please call the Morris Township Detective Bureau at (973) 326-7480.
