Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested
A bank robbery suspect is in custody at Santa Rita Jail after San Leandro Police Detectives arrested him in Stockton, CA on October 3, 2019. Jeremy Morton, 30, of Stockton, is believed to be responsible for two bank robberies that occurred in San Leandro.
San Leandro Police Detectives first became involved in this case on September 26, 2019, when a robbery happened at the Bank of the West in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue. After entering the bank, Morton passed a note to the bank teller demanding money. Morton unlawfully obtained approximately $1,500 from the teller before exiting the bank. Police responded, searched the area, but were unable to locate Morton.
The second bank robbery occurred on September 30, 2019 at the Fremont Bank located in the 1400 block of East 14th Street. During that robbery, Morton also gave the bank teller a note that demanded money. After unlawfully receiving approximately $1,800 from the teller, he fled the bank. Police were not able to locate him.
Based on video footage and other evidence obtained from both banks, San Leandro Police Detectives believed that one person was solely responsible for the two bank robberies and were able to identify Morton as the suspect. Additional investigate leads were conducted, which led detectives to a relative’s residence in Stockton. Detectives conducted surveillance on the residence, located in 8100 block of Palisades Street in Stockton, and arrested Morton without incident.
On October 7, 2019, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case against Morton and charged him with two counts of robbery. He is being held in custody with a 1.45-million-dollar bail.
