Advisory

Slam the scam! Receive a call from a "government official"? Here's a reminder about the gift card scams.

Good Morning,

We would like to remind everyone to be aware of phone scams. We have received numerous calls about gift card scams in which the caller pretends to be from the IRS or DEA, demands payment and will often threaten arrest if they don’t receive their money. The payment is often requested in the form of prepaid GIFT CARDS.

The IRS will never demand money or immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill.
The IRS will not require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card, gift cards, or ask for credit/debit card information over the phone.

The DEA will never contact the public to demand money or any other form of payment.

See the attached pamphlet for more information regarding fraud and scams. For more information regarding similar suspicious IRS-related communications, visit https://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing.
