MEDIA RELEASE: DRUG TAKE BACK DAY – OCTOBER 26, 2019

Contact Person: Sergeant Jay Williams
(608) 757-8018
Date: October 9, 2019

On October 26, 2019, the Sheriff’s Office will again participate in the Wisconsin Dose of Reality and National Prescription Take Back Day where community members can drop off unused and unwanted prescription drugs for proper disposal. The goal of this event is to prevent prescription painkiller abuse in Wisconsin and across the nation as we continue to see an increase in the misuse and addiction to prescription and opioid medications.

The Sheriff’s Office has a drop box located inside the lobby where the drugs can be dropped off 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Other locations within Rock County where medications can be dropped off are: Edgerton Police Department, Evansville Police Department, Milton Police Department, Clinton Police Department, City of Beloit and Beloit Township Police Departments, Janesville Police Department, and Walgreens on Milton Avenue in Janesville.

The following items are allowed in the drop boxes: prescription medicine, over-the-counter medicine, and veterinary medications.

Items not allowed in the drop boxes are: vitamins, supplements, shampoo, conditioners, soap, ointments, Vaseline, cream products and Needles or Sharps. Also please remember to never flush medications down the toilet!
