Police K-9 Locates Large Amount of Methamphetamine in Car

San Mateo Police Department arrested one suspect after a police K-9 alerts officers to a vehicle containing 23 pounds of methamphetamine.

San Mateo, CA – On Thursday, October 3, 2019, around 7:46 A.M., San Mateo Police Department officers contacted a driver near a local park on a welfare check. The driver was subsequently arrested for a warrant and officers utilized a trained narcotics detection police K-9 to search the vehicle, leading officers to a large quantity of methamphetamine valued over $160,000. The suspect was ultimately booked into San Mateo County Jail.

Officers were patrolling the area of Los Prados Park along Casa De Campo when they conducted a welfare check on a person in a vehicle. The driver was contacted by officers and found to have an active warrant for his arrest in San Mateo County. Officers arrested the driver and had reasonable suspicion to believe he was hiding narcotics in the vehicle. While walking around the car, SMPD’s K-9 officer alerted to the trunk and a search revealed nearly 23 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside.

The driver was arrested and booked at San Mateo County Main Jail.
