Advisory

Police arrest student after firearm is located in his backpack at Farnsworth Middle School.

On 10/1/19 at 9:30 am the Sheboygan Police responded to Farnsworth Middle School after being contacted by the school.  It was reported by one of the administrators that they had noticed one of the students smelled like marijuana.   When the responding officer arrived they also detected the odor of marijuana coming from the student and believed that the 13 year old boy was probably in possession of marijuana.  He was taken into custody and while searching the boy incident to the arrest an unloaded firearm was found in his backpack.

During an interview with the boy he reported to the police that he had no intentions of using the firearm at school or to harm anybody.  At this time nobody has reported that the boy has made any threats to harm anybody.  It was learned through further investigation that the boy had previously stolen the firearm from a friend’s home.

Officers from the police department continue to work on this investigation and are looking further into the background of this boy.  He is being referred for the charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, possession of a firearm in a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary.

The safety of our students is a top priority for both the Sheboygan Area School District and the SPD.  We encourage people to continue to have conversations with your children about the importance of reporting any unsafe or suspicious behavior and also about the potential consequences for participating in criminal behavior that creates fear in our schools.
