Officers Arrest One Suspect in a Drive by Shooting; Pending Identification of Others Involved

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – September 30, 2019 – On September 29, 2019, about 7:00 PM, Hollister Police were dispatched to 200 block of San Lorenzo Drive for a drive-by shooting into a home.
Hollister Police Officers arrived at the home and found bullets had been fired into the house and a vehicle parked in the driveway of this residence.  A teenage boy was standing in front of the home at the time, but fortunately escaped being shot.  Other people were present in the house, but no one was injured.  Exterior security cameras on the home captured the shooting.
At about 8:00 PM, San Benito County Sheriff’s Deputy Breyon Canez located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in this shooting.  He followed the car to a home in the 1500 block of Clearview Drive.  A male subject matching the description of one of the shooters exited the vehicle.  Deputy Canez recognized this person as Adrian Nieto (18), a known gang member on felony probation.
When Deputy Canez attempted to contact Nieto, Nieto ran into the home, locking the door behind him.  The suspect vehicle also fled the area.  Deputy Canez called for additional units and a perimeter on the home was established.  Two teenaged boys inside the house refused to allow officers and deputies into the home and Nieto refused to come out.  The homeowner arrived and allowed the officers to enter the home.  Nieto was located hiding inside and taken into custody without further incident.  No firearm was located, but Nieto was positively identified by officers as one of the shooters in the video from the victim’s residence.
Nieto was booked into the San Benito County Jail on a violation of shooting into an inhabited dwelling and for violating his terms of probation.  The second shooter and other occupants of the suspect vehicle have yet to be identified.
This is an ongoing investigation and officers have several good leads to follow-up.
