SUMMARY: On September 28, 2019, deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant for Stephen Mize at a residence in the 12800 block of 6th St. When deputies approached the residence, they found McVay hiding in a vehicle in the driveway. At approximately 2:30 pm, deputies returned to the address for a report that McVay’s truck was being burglarized. Deputies arrived and found Shope in the process of burglarizing the vehicle. He was taken into custody and charged with vehicle burglary. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

At approximately 3:25 pm, deputies received information Mize, a transient out of the Yucaipa area, was at a residence in the 12500 block of 5th St. As they attempted to convince Mize to exit the mobile home, he broke a window and climbed to the roof of the mobile home. Mize attempted to flee by jumping from roof to roof and eventually fell through a metal carport, seriously injuring himself.

Mize resisted deputies efforts to get him into custody. Deputies were able to overcome his resistance and he was eventually taken into custody. Mize was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No deputies were injured.
