LOCAL TRANSIENT ARRESTED FOR VANDALIZING AND BURGLARIZING MAZE MIDDLE SCHOOL

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – September 25, 2019, – On September 23, 2019 the Hollister Police Department responded to a vandalism and burglary at Maze Middle School.

About 7:36 am School Recourse Officer (SRO) Guadalupe Pompa was called to Maze Middle School for a report of felony vandalism and burglary.

SRO Pompa conducted an investigation and found several areas of the school had been damaged. The areas of damage included the surrounding chain link fence, doors and roll-up doors to the cafateria. The damage appeared to be signs of forced entry or attempted forced entry.

Upon further investigation, SRO Pompa found money and food items had been taken. He also observed video surveillance footage of the suspect. The suspect was identified as being local transient, Steven Cardenas.

On September 24, 2019, SRO Pompa located Cardenas in the 300 block South Street. Cardenas was arrested and booked into the San Benito County Jail on the charges of felony vandalism and burglary.
