Second Overdose Victim Saved after Simi Valley Police Officer Administers Naloxone

On September 20, 2019, at approximately 12:22 AM, Simi Valley Police Officers responded to the 1200 block of Haven Ave. for a report of an overdose. Communications advised responding officers that the male victim was not breathing and a family member was performing CPR. Officer James Quiles was the first officer on scene and took over treatment. Officer Quiles conducted an assessment and determined the victim was suffering from an opioid overdose and immediately administered Naloxone (Narcan) and moments later the subject came to and sat up. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

This is the second victim saved with the administration of Naloxone by the Simi Valley Police Department. Three weeks ago, Simi Valley Police Officer Gene Colato utilized Naloxone to save a victim that had overdosed on Percocet, a prescription pain medication which contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone.

The Simi Valley Police Department continues to support prevention and intervention strategies to decrease the misuse of opioid based drugs.
