Armed burglars caught after a home invasion in Union City last night…

Shortly after midnight, Union City Police Officers were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call for help at a home on I Street, near Railroad Avenue.

A family was at home, sleeping when three masked males carrying firearms came into their home. The father of the family was on the couch when he realized the intruders were inside. The father quickly ran upstairs and got all his family members sheltered into the master bedroom.

The three masked suspects followed after the father and kicked the bedroom door open. While inside of the bedroom the suspects demanded money from the family as they pointed firearms at them. The suspects fled the home shortly after stealing property.

Responding police officers saw the suspects leaving the area in a vehicle and got into a pursuit. After a short chase, the suspects crashed into a fire hydrant on Tidewater Drive. All three suspects ran from the vehicle after the cash. One of the suspects was apprehended by Officer Willson and his K9 partner Officer “Ace" (photo attached). A second suspect was chased on foot and caught by another officer. A perimeter was step up around the area where the third and last suspect was seen running.

Officers used one of our drones (shown in the photo) to locate the final suspect hiding in a bush of a nearby residence. After refusing to come out of the bush, K9 Officer “Ace” was used to get the suspect out and taken into custody.

All the suspects, in this case, turned out to be juveniles, two were 17 and one was 16 years old. Replica firearms and some of the victims’ property was recovered during the arrest. We attached some photographs of the evidence from this case.

A very scary incident for the family, but great teamwork by the officers working last night!
