September is Pedestrian Safety Month: Crosswalk Enforcement Operation

Every year several Fairfield residents are hit by vehicles. Often times these collisions result is serious injuries and loss of life.
To combat these tragedies and increase driver awareness, the Fairfield Police Department has stepped up enforcement focusing on jaywalking and crosswalk violations.
Today a crosswalk enforcement operation was conducted on N. Texas Street by the police department’s Traffic Unit.
Motor officers watched as pedestrians crossed the street in an enhanced marked crosswalk.
Those drivers failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians were issued citations.
12 drivers were issued citations, one was found to be driving without a license. His vehicle was impounded.
Please drive safely and use the crosswalk. Watch for pedestrians and teach your children how to be safe when crossing the street.
