Wilmington Police arrest man following drug and firearm investigation:
A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man in connection with drug and firearm offenses.
On May 24 at approximately 8:52 a.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit, Safe Streets Task Force and Canine Unit were in the 300 block of Concord Avenue when the observed individuals openly consuming alcohol in public. As police approached, one of the subjects – 40-year-old Steven Coverdale – fled into a residence. Following a brief foot pursuit, Coverdale was taken into custody without incident and was found to be in possession of 8.5 grams of marijuana.
Police also located an open gym bag with three loaded firearms – a 9mm that had been reported stolen, a .40-caliber handgun and a .45-caliber handgun – along with 7.8 grams of crack cocaine and 61.94 grams of methamphetamine.
Through investigative measures, Coverdale was determined to have been in possession of the three firearms and drugs. A warrant was issued for his arrest on August 22. He was located on September 3 in the 300 block of Concord Avenue by members of the Street Crimes Unit, and was taken into custody without incident. He was also found to be in possession of 11.1 grams of crack cocaine and 4.5 grams of marijuana.
Coverdale has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (3 Counts)
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Resisting Arrest
- Open Container
- Possession of Marijuana
