Newark Firefighters Extinguish Two-Alarm Fire at 168 Sherman Avenue Rescuing 6 People from the Basement
Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a two-alarm fire at 168 Sherman Avenue on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., firefighters responded to the 3-story wood frame building, where the fire was upgraded to a second alarm in less than 10 minutes. While several residents escaped the building, firefighters located 6 residents in the basement and led them out to safety. A total of 26 people, representing 8 families were relocated. No injuries were reported.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
