Press Release

On Monday September 9, 2019 at 5:47 PM, a Corcoran PD unit conducted a traffic stop of a reckless vehicle on Avenue 170 just east of the City of Corcoran. Officers made initial contact with the driver, later identified as Bernardo Lemus Medina (age 58) from Lindsay, CA. Medina then drove away from the initial traffic stop at a high rate of speed heading westbound towards Highway 43 and then continued on Whitley Avenue into Corcoran. Additional CPD units attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle driven by Medina in the area of the 1000 block of Otis Avenue, but he continued to fail to yield to officers. Medina continued to flee from officers, leading officers on a slow speed pursuit in a westbound direction through the city, which concluded in the 600 block of Reagan Avenue. During the pursuit, Medina purposely struck the front of a pursuing CPD patrol unit with his vehicle while attempting to make a U-turn to flee from officers. Medina finally yielded his vehicle and was apprehended by officers at the scene. Officers observed that Medina was showing signs of being under the influence of alcohol. He was ultimately arrested for reckless evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and driving while under the influence of alcohol. Medina was later transported and booked at the Kings County Jail in Hanford, CA with a total bail amount of $90,000.00. No officers were injured during the pursuit.
