Over the past several weeks, the Ocean Township Police Department has received numerous reports of phone scams. These scams include but are not limited to: JCP&L shutting off your electric, the IRS placing people under arrest, a social security number being compromised or canceled and a relative being arrested and in need of bail money. During all of these scams the caller requests that gift cards be sent in order to satisfy your debt. There are no legitimate companies that will request that gift cards (Google Play or Amazon, etc) are sent to them in lieu of payment. Please do not provide any of your personal information to these callers, instead contact the company they claim to be from directly to find out if there are any issues with your account. If you have any further questions after you receive one of these calls, contact your local police department.
