Duarte Crime Blotter for the week of September 1-7, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 1-7, 2019:     
 
September 1, 2019

  • Residential Burglary:
A residential burglary was reported in the 800 block of Crestfield Dr.  Sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., persons unknown entered the victim’s home through the doggie door and helped themselves to a coke from the refrigerator. The suspect had left the refrigerator open and the coke can sitting on the counter. Nothing appeared to be missing at the time of the report. The investigation is ongoing.        
 
September 2, 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:
At approximately 1 a.m. in the area of Encanto Pkwy. and Fish Canyon Rd., deputies observed a vehicle parked in a dirt lot with expired registration. Deputies approached the vehicle and found an adult male who appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat. When the deputies asked the male to step out of the vehicle, he was found to have an illegal narcotics pipe sitting on his lap. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for possession of narcotic paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine. The suspect is a resident of West Covina.         
 
September 3, 2019
  • Grand Theft:
A grand theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Dr. (Target). While conducting an inventory check, an employee noticed approximately 70 Blue Ray DVD’s missing from a display. While checking security footage, it appeared that the previous day at approximately 12 p.m., an adult male placed the DVD’s in a white bag and walked out of the store without paying. The loss was estimated at $1,800. The investigation is ongoing.  
 
  • Petty Theft:
At approximately 2 p.m., unknown persons stole prescription medication from an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of Huntington Dr.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
Sometime between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on September 1person’s unknown stole a 1998 Chevy Silverado from the 1800 block of Park Rose Ave. The vehicle was recovered by the victim on September 5, however, the victim could not recall what area he recovered the vehicle from.  
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:
At approximately 1:10 p.m., deputies were responding to a domestic violence call in the 3500 block of Conata St., when they observed the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on Encanto Pkwy. and detained the adult male driver. During the investigation, the victim stated her husband had threatened her with a knife and punctured the tire to their car. While checking the suspect’s vehicle for the knife, deputies found a small quantity of methamphetamine. 
 
After further investigation into the incident, it was determined the suspect never threatened the victim with a knife, and there was no evidence a tire had been punctured. Based on the above, the suspect was only arrested for possession of methamphetamine.       
 
September 4, 2019
  • No significant activity.
  
September 5, 2019
  • Commercial Burglary:
At approximately 4:15 a.m., deputies responded to 2414 Huntington Dr. (Tai City restaurant) and contacted the owner regarding an open door. Upon arrival, deputies saw the front door had been pried open. Deputies cleared the location, but no suspects were located. After reviewing surveillance footage, the suspect’s pried open the front door and walked away with a small safe containing approximately $200. The investigation is ongoing.
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:
At approximately 12:43 a.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop at Royal Oaks Dr. and Encanto Pkwy., regarding a traffic infraction. Upon contacting the adult male driver, deputies determined he had an outstanding narcotics warrant and placed him under arrest. After further investigation, narcotics paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle and the suspect was additionally charged. The suspect is a resident of Hacienda Heights.  
   
September 6, 2019
  • No significant activity:
        
September 7, 2019
  • Commercial Burglary:
A commercial burglary was reported at 2160 Huntington Dr. (WRU Printing). Sometime between 9 p.m. on September 5 and 8 a.m. on September 6, persons unknown kicked in the rear door and stole approximately $3,000 in camera equipment and an $800 drone. The investigation is ongoing.
