Donald Lett arrested for failing to register as a sex offender

DATE/TIME: September 6, 2019

INCIDENT: PC 290 – Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

LOCATION: City of Rancho Cucamonga
City of Yucaipa

SUSPECT: Lett, Donald 62-year-old resident of Rancho Cucamonga

SUMMARY:

Donald Lett was previously convicted of a sexual act, and as a result of that conviction, he was ordered to register as a Sex Offender for the remainder of his life.

Lett last registered as being a transient in LA County several years ago. In August of 2018, Lett was located in the City of Rancho Cucamonga and was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender. After serving less than 8 months in prison, Lett was released from State Prison and placed on Post Release Community Supervision, as part of California Assembly Bill 109.

As part of Governor Jerry Brown’s Realignment Plan, or AB109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000. Offenders with non violent, non-sexual, and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jail and be placed on local supervision through county probation.

Lett was being supervised by the San Bernardino County Probation Department.

On July 1, 2019, Lett was arrested for violating the terms of his PRCS Supervision and was later released from the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. On August 22, 2019, Lett failed to report to probation as ordered and absconded supervision. Lett also failed to register with the Rancho Cucamonga Police as a sex offender after his release from custody. Detectives from the Rancho Cucamonga Station were in the process of forwarding a case to the District Attorney’s Office to have a warrant issued for his arrest.

On September 6, 2019, Deputies from the City of Yucaipa were notified of a man walking in the roadway in the area of Live Oak Canyon and the 10 freeway. Deputies responded to that area and located the man, who was identified as Donald Lett.

Lett was arrested for violating the terms of his PRCS Supervision, and for failing to register as a sex offender. Lett remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, in lieu of no bail.
