Parent Resource Symposium on 'Teen Vaping' to be Held September 11

A parent resource symposium on 'Teen Vaping' is scheduled to be held at City Hall on September 11, 2019.

According to a survey conducted by the William S. Hart Union High School District in 2019, more than 58% of students reported seeing someone on campus vaping in the 30 days prior to the study.

Have you and your child discussed vaping and other pressures they face each day? To help educate the community on teen issues, particularly with the growing trend of vaping, the City of Santa Clarita will hold its next Parent Resource Symposium on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, to address parental questions and educational points on vaping.

"Head in the Clouds: Truth about Vaping” is a free event that is open to the public and will start at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard. The event is hosted by the City of Santa Clarita in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The evening will consist of a free resource fair for parents and their teenagers in the Century Room (City Hall First Floor). Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Juvenile Intervention Team (J-Team) will have a display table at the resource fair. J-Team members Detective Bill Velek and Intervention Specialist Travis Sabadin will be on hand to answer any questions that parents may have about current drug trends and youth.

The resource fair will be followed by a welcome message from Mayor Marsha McLean and a presentation from Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Robert Lewis and Bob Sharits from The Way Out Recovery SCV. Captain Lewis and Mr. Sharits will provide parents and students with information about the dangers of vaping, as well as tools to start an open conversation about the use of tobacco products and the consequences of using illegal substances.
