Evacuation Order Lifted & Causeway/Island Reopened

The governor has lifted the evacuation order for Glynn County and the State of Emergency has ended. The GDOT has inspected all Jekyll Island bridges and confirmed they are safe to reopen. Jekyll Island is now open for re-entry and all roadways including the Jekyll Island Causeway and Sidney Lanier Bridge are open to the public.
 
Assessments of damage to areas of the island are still ongoing, but the Jekyll Island Authority is grateful to the residents and business partners who worked swiftly to prepare the island ahead of the storm, and the overall impact is minimal.
 
Water & Sewer have not been impacted and is available across the island.
 
Power has been restored to most of the island at this time. To check for outages to your property, visit www.georgiapower.com/storm
 
Initial inspection all of beach crossovers show they are all intact and usable, but please use caution when accessing beaches and bike paths, as there may be debris impacting their use.
 
Glynn County Schools plan to resume a regular school schedule beginning Friday, September 6.
 
Ameris Bank on Jekyll Island will reopen at 1 p.m. today, September 5.
 
The Jekyll Island Authority offices will open and return to normal operating hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Friday, September 6. Jekyll Island Amenities will reopen Friday, September 6, as follows:
 
  • Jekyll Island Campground: reopening normal operating hours
  • Jekyll Island Golf Club: Pine Lakes & Great Dunes golf courses will reopen at 12 p.m. More information will be provided as the other courses reopen.
  • McCormick’s Grill: reopening normal operating hours, including breakfast and lunch
  • Jekyll Island Tennis Center: Limited court access will be available beginning at 12 p.m.
  • Mosaic, the Jekyll Island Museum: reopening normal operating hours
  • Georgia Sea Turtle Center: Gift shop open normal operating hours; gallery and rehabilitation pavilion closed under further notice; pending the return transportation of patients
  • Summer Waves: reopening Saturday, September 7
  • Jekyll Island Bike Barn & Mini Golf: reopening normal operating hours
  • Jekyll Island Convention Center: reopening normal operating hours
  • All public restrooms: reopening normal operating hours
  • Jekyll Island Airport: now open
  • Jekyll Island Guest Information Center: now open
 
Please understand that JIA employees will be working diligently to restore all services and amenities on the island as quickly as possible, though some services may not be fully-restored upon opening.
 
Please check with businesses directly for their returning hours of operations, but please allows business owners time to return to the island and assess their properties.
 
Waste Management will complete a trash-only pickup tomorrow, September 6, and will return to a normal trash collection schedule Monday, September 9, with the exception of recycling. Recycling collection will take place Wednesday, September 11 and then return to a normal recycling schedule.
 
More information on storm debris & tree removal will be provided as it becomes available.
