Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Partners Announce Results of Major Human Trafficking Initiative

What: The Harris County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with a host of partner law enforcement agencies and social service organizations – known as the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance -- on a six-day initiative dubbed “Operation Independence.” The operation’s objective was to identify and rescue human trafficking victims, identify and arrest traffickers, and to provide an array of services to help victims escape their abusers. Results of this initiative will be presented.

Who: Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and representatives from the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance, including the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, the FBI, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Other partners include YMCA International, the Landing, Texas Department of Family Protective Services, the Family Time Shelter, FBI Victim Specialists, the Spring Fire Department, and the Texas Forensic Nurse Examiners.
