VICTIM(S): Residents of Yucaipa
SUMMARY: On September 3, 2019, the Yucaipa Police Department became aware of the theft of a dog that was captured on a home surveillance camera. The video of the crime was widely circulated on social media by residents and clearly showed a Hispanic male at the victim's residence at the time of the theft.
Deputies and detectives from the Yucaipa Police Department identified the suspect as Sergio Farfan-Gonzalez who works as an alarm technician for a home security company. Investigators were able to speak to the suspect via telephone on September 4, but he refused to meet with deputies. A search warrant was obtained for his residence in Fontana. When investigators arrived at the residence, they located Farfan-Gonzalez and took him into custody without incident.
As investigators worked to locate the stolen dog, an unknown male came to the victim's residence and returned the dog to the family. The male left without providing any information to the family and investigators are releasing a video of the subject who returned the dog and asking the public to help us identify and locate him. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Juan Aguirre.
The pug puppy named Zoey is back at home and safe with family. Farfan-Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the San Bernardino County Jail on a charge of grand theft of a dog.
