Advisory

Back to School

Now that the 2019-2020 school year is upon us, this is a good time to review some important points to keep everyone safe:

  1. DRIVERS:  are reminded that many children will be walking in the city; some of them attending school for the first time.  Motorists should make a conscious effort to drive cautiously.  Police patrols will be giving extra attention to “Speeding” and “Passing School Bus” violations.

  1. PARENTS:  should remind their children that if the child becomes lost, or scared, Police Officers are their friends and are there to help them.  The child should be assured that they are not in trouble, and that the Officer will help them get home safely.  Parents should also remind their children to only cross streets at designated points, and not to dart into traffic.

  1. ALL PERSONS:  should report suspicious individuals or vehicles that are near bus stops, school crossings, etc.

I ask all concerned parents and citizens to help the Amsterdam Police Department make this the safest school year ever.  We appreciate everyone’s assistance and cooperation.
