#LASD Deputy-Involved Shooting, Deputy Injured, Suspects Arrested, 1400 blk Sidney Dr, East LA

East Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies responded to several calls regarding a vandalism investigation, where suspects were reported to be smashing multiple car windows near the area of the 1400 Block of Sydney Drive in Commerce, on Monday, September 2, 2019, at approximately 2:06 a.m.

When they arrived, two deputies inside a marked patrol car located and attempted to detain two suspects fitting the description in the call, on the roadway, who were inside a blue Volkswagen.

The deputies’ marked patrol car faced the suspect vehicle. The suspects, who drove towards the deputies, then struck the deputies’ driver side door as the deputies exited their patrol car.   The door struck a deputy and pinned him in the doorframe at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspects then fled the scene and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The suspect vehicle crashed while fleeing northbound on the 710 Freeway at Imperial Highway in South Gate.

Two male Hispanic suspects, in their 20’s, were arrested and taken into custody without further incident. They were transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries consistent with a traffic collision.

The injured deputy was transported to a local area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.   The second deputy was not injured.

The investigation is on-going and there is no further information available at this time.
