Back in the fall of 2018 City of Carmi Officials seen the need to reduce the speed limit in areas of Oak St. from 40 MPH to 35 MPH to help with motorist safety.  Because Oak St. is a State Highway Illinois Department Of Transportation has to be the agency to enact a speed limit change.  IDOT was able to conduct a traffic related study which included a field investigation of the site, analysis of traffic patterns, a thorough review of the accident history and examination of any transportation plans for the area.  As a result of their study they have concurred and have changed the speed limits to 35 MPH in the requested areas.  The 35 MPH limit is now posted beginning 235 Feet West of Lexington Avenue for East Bound Oak St traffic. West Bound Oak St speed limit was lowered to 35 and continues to be 35 until approximately 175 West of Lexington before it turns back to 40 MPH.  Please take notice of the new speed limit changes in these areas as they will be enforced.
