Advisory

Fire Danger HIGH in our area. Are you prepared? Learn more here

No time to be complacent, we are in HIGH Fire Danger until we get significant rain or snow. There will be large numbers of visitors this weekend, some of which may not appreciate the significant fire danger in our area. Campfire Ban still in effect. Call 911 if you see illegal fires, smoke, or campfires that have not been put dead out.

Often, campfires that were put out the previous night start smoking and coming alive in the heat of the morning the following day. On your morning hike, keep a careful eye out for fresh campfire rings.  The embers of the fire should be cool to the touch. Remember the Martis Fire that burned over 15,000 acres east of town in 2001? That was from a campfire that wasn't put completely out.

We are anticipating some days of EXTREME FIRE DANGER over the next few months. Now is the time to prepare for evacuation. Have a GO BAG ready with things you will take with you. If there is a wildfire don't wait for an evacuation notice, leave early!

Go to Readyforwildfire.org for more tips on preparing for wildfire and evacuation.
