Wasco Sheriff's Activities League youth help rescue girl

On Saturday, August 24, 2019, youth with the Wasco Sheriffs Activities League and Bakersfield Sheriffs Activities League took a summer trip to Wild Water Adventures in Clovis.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., an unknown female juvenile, not associated with either SAL, began struggling to stay above water and called for help. The Wasco SAL kids heard the female and began yelling for help to lifeguards in the area.

Deputy Willis heard the Wasco kids and noticed the female in distress as she was sinking below the surface, and began to swim toward the female. Wasco SAL youth held the girl above the water until Deputy Willis arrived and took her to a rescue ladder near the lifeguard tower.

KCSO is very proud of the involved members of Wasco SAL. They are Hailey Medrano, Jaime Fernandez, Leila Adams, Hailey Adams and Monique Rodriguez. We appreciate their selflessness and heroism to rescue another in need.

The youth will be honored at the Wasco City Hall meeting on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
