• Slow down and observe the speed limit and traffic laws in school zones at all times. Camarillo Police Officers will be assigned to these areas to enforce traffic laws.
• Be very careful when driving on neighborhood streets and around school zones.  Always expect the unexpected.  Stay off of your cell phones or any other devices that may distract you as you travel.
• Be alert for children walking and biking as you back out of your driveway or leave your garage.
• If you are dropping your child off at school, do not stop in the street and let them out.  Pull to the curb, without blocking driveways, and let them out in a safe area.
• Watch for children on bicycles, especially at intersections.
• Follow directions of all crossing guards at crosswalks and near schools.  Failure to do so can result in a citation.
• Stop your car when you see lights flashing on a school bus.  Flashing red lights indicate that the bus is stopped and students are getting on or off. Vehicles in every lane need to stop. Do not start driving until the red lights stop flashing.
• Pay attention to Crossing Guards and do not enter the intersection until all pedestrians are clear and the Crossing Guard has lowered their Stop Sign

• Remind your children that bicyclists must follow the same rules of the road as vehicles do.  They must stop for stop signs, red lights, and signal when turning.
• Any child under 18 years of age is required by law to wear an approved helmet when riding bicycles and scooters.  Bicyclists not wearing helmets could be cited and the fine is over $100.00.

• Never walk alone to school.  Always walk with a friend or an adult.
• Only cross the street at a marked crosswalk.
• Look left, right, and left again before crossing and continue to be aware of your surroundings.
• Stay alert!  Put cell phones, games, and other devices away until you arrive at your destination.  If you wear earbuds, use them in one ear only, so that the other ear can hear sounds and possible hazards.
• Make eye contact with drivers prior to crossing when vehicles are approaching or stopped.
