Police determine that message passed via social media of a threat at Cal City High School is NOT credible

Last Friday afternoon, the California City Police Department started getting phone calls from concerned parents about a social media posting that was circulated among students at California City High School.

The message warned other students that they should not go to school Monday because of a rumor of a threat of school violence.

Police worked with school officials and were able to track down the source of the postings.

It has been determined that students walking through campus overheard a special needs students trying to speak with fellow students. Versions of That conversation changed and evolved among other students. The special needs student had originally asked fellow students where a certain classroom was at the school. The evolution of the hallway conversation evolved into a rumor that he was going to shoot up a classroom.

Police interviewed the student at his home. The student explained what he was trying to communicate with the other students and it was determined it was not any type of threat to students or staff.

Parents of the student allowed officers to verify that the student did not have any access to any weapons and no weapons were found at the home.

The information on this investigation was turned over to school officials.

There will be an increased police presence at the schools and the school district will be announcing that there will not be any changes to school schedule.
