Man Behind Bars for Attempted Murder of a Police Officer After Pulling a Gun on Folsom Officers

On 8/20/19, at little after 1pm, Folsom Police Officers responded to a business in the 1000 block of Riley Street to assist with a shoplifter who was being uncooperative with loss prevention. Immediately upon arrival, 29 year old Jason Knapp of Folsom, became physically combative with officers. A violent physical struggle ensued, and Knapp then pulled a gun on the officers, pointed the gun in the officers direction and pulled the trigger. The gun was loaded but, due to the violent struggle, the gun had jammed and did not fire. Officers disarmed Knapp as he continued to fight with three Folsom Police Officers, and a loss prevention employee. Officers were able to detain Knapp, after deploying a taser. Knapp was transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries. Officers were also treated for minor injuries. A search of the vehicle, determine to be driven by Knapp, revealed just over a half pound of cocaine, and two additional loaded guns. After receiving medical care, Knapp was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail and booked for attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. A photo of Knapp is attached.
