Duarte Crime Blotter for the week of August 11 through August 17, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of August 11-17, 2019:
 
August 11, 2019

  • Assault with a deadly Weapon:
At approximately 11:35 p.m., deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 2351 Central Avenue (Otis Gordon Park). Upon arrival, they located an adult male who stated he was assaulted with a stick by approximately six males, who then fled in a vehicle. The victim was treated by paramedics for a laceration to the back of the head. The investigation is ongoing. 
 
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). Store security was advised about some security tags hanging on the headphone shelf with no product attached. When security reviewed video footage, they saw that on August 8, an adult female was observed placing a back pack, two Google Chromecasts, headphones and other merchandise in a shopping cart, then entered the fitting rooms with the merchandise. The female was then observed exiting the fitting room wearing the back pack and exiting the store. The loss was estimated at approximately $338.  The investigation is ongoing.
 
August 12, 2019
  • Grand Theft:
A grand theft was reported at 1440 Huntington Drive (Bank of America).  An elderly victim stated when she went to withdraw money from her safety deposit box, she noticed a large sum of money missing. The victim stated she and the bank are the only ones with keys to the safety deposit box, and she was in possession of both her keys.  The investigation is ongoing.
 
  • Petty Thefts:
Two petty thefts were reported in the 1400 block of Third Street.  Sometime between 10:30 p.m. on August 3 and 7:30 a.m. on the August 4, persons unknown stole a pair of sunglasses and a GPS from one unlocked vehicle, and a cell phone and wallet containing $103, from another unlocked vehicle at the same location. 
 
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported in the 600 block of Las Lomas Road. A yard decoration was stolen from the front yard. The victim believes tree trimmers working next door may have taken the item. The loss was estimated at $100.
 
August 13, 2019
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported at 1189 Huntington Drive (CK Nail Spa). On July 19, 2019, the victim was getting her nails done, when persons unknown stole two credit cards from her purse. Shortly thereafter, the victim received a call from her bank regarding fraudulent charges at Walmart and Target in Duarte. The loss was estimated at approximately $400. The investigation is ongoing.       
 
August 14, 2019
  • No significant activity.    
     
August 15, 2019
  • Residential Burglary:
A residential burglary was reported in the 1800 block of Bradbury Avenue. At approximately 5:05 p.m,. the victim’s arrived home and found their house ransacked. Entry was made by removing a bedroom window. The home is equipped with a security system, however, the residents forgot to activate it before leaving. Five watches were stolen. The loss was estimated at approximately $1,000.
 
  • Illegal Narcotics Arrest: 
At approximately 6:15 p.m., deputies responded to the 1300 block of Bloomdale Street, regarding a call of a person screaming. Upon arrival, they contacted an adult male who appeared to be hallucinating. A check of the suspect revealed he had an outstanding narcotics warrant, and was arrested. A search of the suspect and his property was conducted.  Inside the suspect’s backpack, deputies found a small quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
 
  • Illegal Narcotics Arrest: 
At approximately 6:47 a.m., deputies responded to the 1900 block of Broadland Avenue, regarding a disturbance call. Deputies contacted an adult male inside the residence who was speaking incoherently to himself. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
 
  • Illegal Narcotics Arrest: 
At approximately 4:20 p.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Tannencrest Drive. The driver informed deputies his license was suspended and he believed he had an outstanding warrant. Deputies confirmed the driver’s license was in fact suspended and he had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. Incident to the arrest, deputies conducted a search of the suspect and recovered methamphetamine from his person. The suspect was arrested for the three outstanding warrants and additionally charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine.            
 
August 16, 2019
  • No significant activity.      

August 17, 2019
  • Armed Robbery:
An Armed Robbery was reported at 1802 Huntington Drive (LE Donuts).  At approximately 4:00 a.m., the victim arrived to open the donut shop, when an adult male approached her holding a knife and demanded her purse. The victim fearing for her life, gave the suspect her purse. The suspect ran southbound on Highland Avenue and entered the apartment complex at 1235 Highland Avenue. Deputies checked the complex, however, were unable to locate the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
