One death on Kern River; search for missing man

On August 17, 2019, at approximately 1:40 p.m., KCSO deputies from the Kern Valley substation were called for a report of a man floating in the Kern River, near Keysville.
Kern Valley Search and Rescue was called out and located the body of the man approximately one mile down the river. He was not wearing a flotation device.
He is a 31-year-old man from Los Angeles. The coroner’s office will release his identity pending family notification.
On August 17, 2019, at about 6:55 p.m., deputies were called for a report of a 32-year-old man who fell in the Kern River near the mouth of the canyon, and was swept downstream.
Bakersfield Search and Rescue responded and conducted a search. Search efforts resumed Sunday, and are underway Monday, August 19.
The public is reminded that even though water levels have gone down some, the Kern River is still very dangerous. Those who visit the river are encouraged to use appropriate safety measures.
