HELP SMPD Identify a Theft Suspect
 
The San Mateo Police Department is asking for your help with identifying a theft suspect who used the victim’s credit card after a wallet was stolen from a gym locker.
 
San Mateo, CA - On Monday, July 29, 2019, San Mateo Police Department officers were called to a report of theft that occurred inside the YMCA Gym located at 1877 S Grant Street. The suspect broke into a locker, stole the victim’s wallet, and later charged over $4,000 for electronics.
 
The San Mateo Police Department continues to investigate this theft case and is seeking to identify the suspect seen on the attached surveillance images. Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately. Many thanks to the YMCA for their support and full cooperation as SMPD works to bring the thief to justice.
 
WANTED FOR QUESTIONING
Male, approximately 5’-8”, 220 pounds, with dark short hair, a full beard, and a medium complexion. He was wearing a white button up shirt, blue pants, and brown shoes.
 
TIPS ON SECURING YOUR PROPERTY AT THE GYM
As SMPD tackles this case, we ask our community to safeguard your property with these tips:

  • Not all locks are created equal. Buy a cut-resistant padlock.
  • Choose a locker near highly traveled areas.
  • Carry valuables with you at the gym.
  • Photograph items in your wallet to ensure proper reporting if stolen.
  • Report suspicious persons loitering in the locker room.
  • Install a trunk safe in your car for items you cannot bring into the gym.
