Upcoming Rosemead Boulevard Road Closures

Road Closures Allow for Rosemead Boulevard Updates

Improvements to Temple City’s main roadway’s pavement will occur through Aug. 21, with traffic impacted.

TEMPLE CITY, CA (Aug. 5, 2019)—A 2.2-mile-long strip of Temple City’s main corridor, Rosemead Boulevard, will be resurfaced through Aug. 21. The project will reinforce the road’s existing pavement by sealing cracks and applying a slurry seal as a protective coating.

Rosemead Boulevard was last repaved in 2013 as part of a $21-million revitalization project. Given the corridor’s high traffic counts—more than 36,000 vehicles travel the road in a given day—this maintenance is required to keep the city’s major arterial road in good condition.

During the current revitalization phase, which makes use of $550,000 in California’s Senate Bill 1 funds, the slurry seal application phase will impact traffic most severely. The results, however, will be worth the wait: Eco-friendly rubberized asphalt will create a skid-resistant finish, produce noticeably lower tire noise, and last 50% longer than conventional materials.

Road closures will take place on the following dates:

  • From 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, the intersection of Rosemead Boulevard and Las Tunas Drive will be closed. Traffic will be diverted to other streets, and motorists traveling the area are encouraged to travel alternate routes.

  • From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Sunday, Aug. 11, and Friday, Aug. 16, slurry seal application will occur in all other areas along Rosemead Boulevard. Street parking will be unavailable during these hours, and driveway access temporarily blocked. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes when possible, as only one traffic lane will be open in each direction during these hours.
