FATALITY CRASH PRESS RELEASE

On 7/26/2019 at 4:01 AM, dispatchers at the Northern Ellis Emergency Dispatch center received multiple 9-1-1 calls in reference to a major accident involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of N. IH-35E. Red Oak Police Department and Red Oak Fire Rescue personnel were subsequently dispatched to the scene to investigate. On 7/26/2019 at 4:03 AM, Red Oak Police Personnel arrived on scene and started an investigation into the collision.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that a collision occurred between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. The rider of the motorcycle was identified as Moore, William Augustus (64 years old) of Dallas, Texas and was ejected from the motorcycle after the initial collision. The driver of the passenger vehicle was identified as Chapman Jr., Jerry Love (40 years old) of Waxahachie, Texas. Mr. Chapman exited his passenger vehicle after the initial collision and entered back into the roadway to check on the status of Mr. Moore. As Mr. Chapman entered into the lanes of traffic, the driver of a tractor-trailer attempted to take evasive action and collided with Mr. Chapman and Mr. Moore resulting in a secondary collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer pulled to the shoulder of the roadway and stopped on S. IH-35E just south of the collisions. The name of the driver of the tractor-trailer is being withheld until the investigation has been completed.

During the collisions, Mr. Moore sustained life-ending injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Steve Egan at approximately 6:00 AM. Phi Air Ambulance subsequently transported Mr. Chapman to Medical City Hospital in Arlington, Texas with life threatening injuries. Mr. Chapman was subsequently pronounced deceased at approximately 5:49 AM. The accident remains under investigation.
