STORM AND POWER OUTAGE

Dear Neighbors,

The Lumberton OEM wishes to provide you with an update regarding last evening’s storm and the ongoing power outage in town.  OEM participated in a conference call with PSE&G this afternoon for a storm briefing and system status update.

Statewide, nearly 200,000 residents within the PSE&G service area lost power; as of 2 PM more than half of those affected have been restored.  Unfortunately, Burlington, Camden and Mercer counties were the worst hit and sustained the most infrastructure damage.  There are still 22 primary distribution lines down, numerous secondary lines and several sub-stations, not to mention numerous local lines and poles.  Because of this, a lot of repair work needs to take place before local lines can be re-established.

PSE&G is working around the clock in all these counties, and mutual aid power service companies, some from as far as Canada, are in-state or en-route to help speed up the process.  The full storm response plan for Southern NJ is in effect.

We have been advised that while individual communities and neighborhoods will be restored on a rolling basis, PSE&G has targeted THURSDAY, 11:00PM as the full restoration time.  This would be worse case scenario, but we hope most if not all of you come back online sooner.  Additional conference calls will be held tomorrow through Friday to keep the Township up to date on their progress.

To help our community through this, please note the following:

1) Township phone and email service has been restored, and someone is available to answer non-emergency calls for assistance.  The offices remain closed as the building systems are still on backup generator power.

2) The Emergency Services Building at 34 Municipal Dr (across the street) is now open to provide water, ice and charging capabilities to residents.  Please bring coolers and containers as necessary.  Supplies are being provided by PSE&G and will be available throughout the evening and tomorrow.  *NOTE persons with medical devices which need charging will be given priority access and should stop down anytime.  IF A MEDICAL EMERGENCY OCCURS CALL 9-1-1.

3) The Lumberton PD is fully up and functional for both emergency and non-emergency police issues.

Also be reminded that FOSTERTOWN RD, STACY HAINES RD and LANDING ST remain closed while crews clear debris, secure and replace power lines and re-activate service.

SAFETY FIRST!  Do not drive over downed wires.  Avoid fallen utility poles.  Report arcing wires or sparking transformers by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), text “OUT” to 47734, or online at www.pseg.com.  You may also call the Lumberton PD or Lumberton Twp at (609) 267-3217.

We understand this is a difficult and very inconvenient situation, and appreciate everyone’s patience as service is restored.  Please work together, check on neighbors and report issues to township officials.  Lumberton Working Together!
