Detectives are continuing to investigate an attempted murder that occurred in Mentone 
DATE/TIME: July 18, 2019 / 9:33 p.m.
INCIDENT: Attempted Murder
LOCATION: 10000 block of Basalt Ln, Mentone
SUSPECT: Robert Trujillo, age 25 a resident of Mentone
VICTIM: Female, age 48 a resident of Yucaipa
SUMMARY: On July 18, 2019, at approximately 9:33 p.m., deputies from the Yucaipa Station responded to a stabbing in Mentone. The victim was outside her residence when a male approached her. For reasons that are still not known, the male attacked the female and stabbed her approximately 30 times in the arms, chest, back, abdomen, and head. The victim was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center and is in critical condition after emergency surgeries. She is expected to survive.
Through their investigation, deputies identified Trujillo as the suspect. Trujillo is on parole and fled the area prior to deputies arrival.
On July 19, 2019, Trujillo was located in the city of San Bernardino and was taken into custody without incident. Trujillo was booked into West Valley Detention Center in leu of $1,000,000.00 bail.
At this time, there is no known relationship between Trujillo and the victim. Deputies and detectives are working to determine the motive behind this crime and determine who Trujillo was with at the time of the crime, if anyone.
