Traffic stop leads to arrest of Princeton woman on multiple charges.

On July 14, 2019, at 3:30 p.m. Deputy U.B. Smith conducted a traffic stop on a Gold 2002 Hyundai Elantra for making an unsafe lane change near the intersection of Hart and Christian Street in Princeton. Upon approaching the vehicle the driver 44 year old Amy Murphy of Princeton gave Deputy Smith a false name in an attempt to conceal her true identity. During a roadside investigation Deputy Smith positively identified Ms. Murphy and discovered that she had a suspended license on a prior conviction through the state of Indiana. Deputy Smith also detected the odor of alcohol coming from Ms. Murphy. At that point he proceeded to a roadside DUI investigation. At the conclusion of his investigations Deputy Smith placed Ms. Murphy into custody and transported her to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Gibson County Jail Ms. Murphy was charged with False Informing, Driving While Suspended Prior, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Possession of Methamphetamines. She remains in custody on a $570 bond.

Assisting Deputy Smith in his investigation was Deputy Loren Barchett as well as Princeton Officers Chelsea Jones and Ben Kiesel.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
