Flash Flood Watch until 07:00PM Monday

...Excessive Rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Barry Will Bring an Elevated Risk of Flash Flooding Sunday and Monday... .Tropical cyclone Barry will lift north through Arkansas Sunday night and Monday. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will occur this afternoon and evening, with brief periods of locally heavy rainfall creating a slight risk of flash flooding. The flash flood risk will increase substantially on Sunday, as widespread moderate to heavy rain bands lift into north Mississippi Sunday morning. These rain bands will continue advancing north through the remainder of the Midsouth Sunday afternoon and evening. Heaviest rainfall is expected over the Mississippi River delta and the Memphis metro area late Sunday evening into early Monday morning. Storm total rainfall through Tuesday may reach as high as 8 inches over northwest Mississippi and east central Arkansas. While the heaviest rainfall will likely taper off Monday, additional light to moderate rainfall is expected on Tuesday, which may necessitate an extension of the Flash Flood Watch at a later time. The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and West Tennessee, including the following areas, in East Arkansas, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Mississippi, Poinsett, and St. Francis. In North Mississippi, Alcorn, Benton, DeSoto, Itawamba, Lee, Marshall, Prentiss, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, and Union. In West Tennessee, Chester, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Shelby, and Tipton.

* From Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.

* Excessive rainfall from the remnants of tropical cyclone Barry, totaling 3 to 6 inches.

* Flash flooding could lead to live threatening situations for motorists and individuals exposed to low lying areas or rapidly rising creeks and rivers.
