News Release: Man Arrested Following Downtown Skateboard Attack

Police arrested a man Wednesday morning after he attacked a pedestrian with a skateboard.

On Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at about 11:40 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a man reporting that he had just been assaulted on the 500 block of University Avenue. Officers responded to the area, located the suspect inside of a nearby business, and detained him without incident.

The investigation revealed that the victim, a man in his twenties, was walking westbound on the 500 block of University Avenue when he was accosted by a male subject he did not know. The subject yelled nonsensically and then punched the victim in the face. After punching the victim, the suspect used a skateboard to strike the victim in the abdomen. As the victim fled and called police, the suspect continued to yell unintelligibly at the victim. The suspect then threw a rock toward the victim before walking away. The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and torso.

Officers booked the suspect, 38-year-old Tristan Mackreth, who has no permanent city of residence, into the Santa Clara County Main jail for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, both felonies. A booking photograph is attached.
