Advisory

Special Weather Statement

Afternoon heat index values will top out from 100 to 105 over much
of southeast Missouri.
Temperatures running up in the lower half of the 90s this
afternoon will combine with very oppressive humidity levels to
produce heat index values from 100 to 105 degrees. In addition,
heat indices in the 90s will persist well into the evening hours.

Those with outdoor plans this afternoon and evening should plan
to bring along plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated.
Take frequent breaks, preferably in the shade or indoors, if
engaging in outdoor sports or other activities. Make sure outdoor
pets have plenty of fresh water as well.Scattered thunderstorms are expected today, mainly in the
afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible tonight.
Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns,
but a stray severe storm with damaging winds cannot be ruled out
in the heat of the day.
