Fireworks Advisory Message

Due to the extremely dry conditions on our local hillsides this year, unlawful fireworks displays during the July 4th holiday period pose a greater threat to the health and safety of our community than in years past. In an effort to reduce potential injuries and property damage, the Simi Valley Police Department asks all residents to comply with local laws and ordinances prohibiting the possession and discharge of fireworks within the City.

In an effort to reduce fireworks violations on July 4th, the Simi Valley Police Department, with the assistance and cooperation of the Ventura County Fire Department, will be aggressively enforcing laws prohibiting the possession and discharge of fireworks. The base fine for a fireworks infraction starts at $100, while misdemeanor base fines start at $2,500 for each violation. Depending on prior convictions, fines for misdemeanors can reach as high as approximately $10,000.

Residents who need a Police Officer to respond to in-progress fireworks violations should contact the Police Department at (805) 583-6950. With this year’s extremely dry conditions, we all need to do our part to make this July 4th a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone.
