Avoid a $1,000 Fine...Enjoy Your Holiday! Don't forget to join us for a FREE Fireworks Show 7/3

In honor of the nation’s birthday, the City of Duarte will be hosting its first ever Independence Day Celebration and Firework show July 3rd from 6:00pm-9:30pm at Duarte Sports Park Upper Baseball Fields 1401 Central Ave. Family-friendly entertainment leading up to the fireworks will include live music by the Latin-funk-R&B SOTO Band, a performance by the hip hop crew Duarte Dance, food trucks, vendor booths and a kids play zone. For parking information please visit our website at www.accessduarte.com

The City of Duarte would also like to remind residents and visitors that ALL fireworks are prohibited. Fireworks may not be discharged on July 4th or any other days since the passage of Measure F on November 2018. Remember fireworks are also illegal in neighboring cities and the adjacent county area.

The Duarte Public Safety and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department will have extra patrols out the entire holiday week to ensure that restrictions are enforced. The sale, possession or discharge of all fireworks is prohibited. Violators of the firework restrictions may be subjected to prosecution and receive a $1000 fine and/ or six months in jail.

Duarte Citizens voted to ban the sale and discharge of safe and sane fireworks in the City by approving Measure F, 51.23% to 48.77%. The California State Fire Marshall has decreed a zero tolerance against illegal fireworks due to drought conditions.

Fireworks can also be a source of stress for veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Veterans crisis support is available 24/7, text HOME to 741741 for support with a trained crisis counselor.

Fireworks and Pets Don’t Mix. Here are some tips to keep your pets safe:

  • Keep pets indoors with windows and doors closed. Fireworks can cause animals to change their behavior and do things like jump over fences and/or bite a human.
  • Play music or leave the TV on to help cover the noise of fireworks.
  • Don’t take your dog to the fireworks display.
  • If you are home, do an activity that your dog enjoys and will take their mind off the noise outside.
  • Tire your dog out by exercising them before the festivities begin.
  • Use pet-friendly calming spray or oils.
  • If your dog already uses a Thundershirt, put this on them.
  • Make sure your pet has an updated ID tag worn or secure collar.
  • If your pet runs away, check the neighborhood, contact Duarte Public Safety at 626-357-7938 or, contact the San Gabriel Valle Humane Society at for more information visit https://www.sgvhumane.org/lost-and-found-animals

If you see someone discharging any type of fireworks in the community, contact LASD Temple Station 626-285-7171.
