Entry to Unlocked Vehicles and Vehicle Theft Reminders

Vehicle Thefts and Entry to Vehicles Reminder:

The past few days there has been an increase in entry to unlocked vehicles and an auto theft, which was taken with a key.

The Shorewood Police Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of locking your vehicles when they are unattended. The vast majority of vehicle entries and stolen vehicles in the Village of Shorewood have stemmed from unlocked vehicles. Instances of thieves forcing entry via a broken window are rare but will occur when there is an item or items of interest left in plain view inside the vehicle.

Please help by doing your part to prevent theft:
• Lock your car.
• Take your keys out of the vehicle (don’t forget to check for the valet key that is often inside your glove box or owner’s manual).
• Hide your belongings, or better yet, don’t leave them inside the vehicle.

Thank you for your cooperation in preventing crimes.
