Deputies respond to the report of a shooting at a residence in the 12700 block of California Street

DATE/TIME: June 30, 2019

INCIDENT: Attempted Murder

LOCATION: 12700 block of California St., Yucaipa

SUSPECT: Unknown

VICTIMS: Five victims, all adults; four (4) males and one (1) female

SUMMARY: On June 30, 2019, at approximately 9:48, deputies from the Yucaipa Station responded to a residence in the 12700 block of California Street following the report of a fight with multiple shots fired. Deputies found a total of five victims with gunshot wounds, three with non-life-threatening leg and arm wounds, and two with graze wounds.

Through investigation, deputies determined that there was a family barbeque at the location, and during the late afternoon, a Chevrolet TrailBlazer pulled into the mobile home park and the occupants began arguing with family members. The occupants of the vehicle threatened to come back and kill the family members, then left the area. Photographs of the vehicle were taken by witnesses and later provided to deputies.

Investigation showed that multiple subjects believed to be linked to the earlier argument returned to the party later and a fight broke out. During the fight, numerous rounds were fired from a handgun and the victims were struck.

The suspect vehicle was later located, and one subject has been detained. His role in the shooting, if any, is not known at this time, the investigation is ongoing.

Deputies believe that there were dozens of witnesses and involved parties at and around the fight that led to the shooting. Some left the scene prior to deputies arriving and we are asking that anyone with information contact the Yucaipa Police Department. Deputies also believe that several people may have captured the fight and/or shooting on video. Those with video are also asked to contact the Yucaipa Police Department at (909) 918-2305.
