Suspicious man attempted to lure child away from a home in the 600 block of Wharton in Ypsilanti Twp. Reply with TIP

Last night around 9:30pm, in the 600 block of Wharton in Ypsilanti Township, there was a suspicious incident of a man attempting to lure a young girl away from her home.

At the time, a 12-year-old girl was out in front of her home playing when an unknown male approached on his bike.  The male stopped in front of the girl’s home and attempted to lure her over to him.  He attempted to get her attention and motioned for her to come over. As he continued his attempts and began verbally asking her to come over to him she became scared and ran into the house. The unknown male then rode away.

The subject was described as a white male, approximately 30 years old with long strawberry/blonde hair and a stocky build. His bike was described as cream in color and a beach cruiser style model.

The attached photograph was taken from a nearby home security camera. Unfortunately, the quality of the image is difficult to make out specifics, but does confirm the time and location of the incident. From the still images we see the subject on his bike heading south on Wharton and then turns around near the caller’s address to head north.

If you have any information regarding who he may be please contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office at 734-994-2911 or through our confidential tip line, 734-973-7711.
