Advisory

Harper Woods City Officials amend Fireworks Ordinance

The City of Harper Woods adopted the States recent changes in the use of illegal fireworks when it comes to the days and times allowed.

The new law has significantly reduced the number of days one can shoot off unrestricted fireworks, from 30 to 12. The new ordinance is as followed:

• December 31st until 1 a.m. on January 1st.
• The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.
• June 29th to July 4th until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.
• July 5th, if that date is a Friday or Saturday until 11:45 p.m.
• The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day until 11:45 p.m. on each of those days.

While the HWDPS desires all or our residents to enjoy holiday fireworks in accordance with the law, we WILL enforce our Fireworks Ordinance as issued by City Council.

Please use fireworks with the utmost care. They are inherently dangerous, and we do not wish to see anyone, especially our kids, hurt by their use.

Have a safe holiday, and do contact us if there is a problem in your neighborhood. We will do the best we can to address the issue. As always, if you are unhappy with our response, contact dispatch at 313.343.2530 and ask to speak to the supervisor.
