4^th of July is right around the corner. The Montebello Police Department would like to remind everyone to “Celebrate Safely” this holiday. There are 15 non-profit organizations licensed to sell fireworks in Montebello. Please help support these organizations and don’t buy illegal fireworks that can result in a $1,000 fine, property damage, injury or death. Look for the Safe and Sane logo on your fireworks to know your fireworks aren’t illegal.
 
Please follow these safety tips so everyone can have a fun and memorable day.
 

• Never use illegal fireworks
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks
• Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
• Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
• Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire
• Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
• Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
• Never light them indoors
• Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
• Never point or throw fireworks at another person
• Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
• Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
• Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
